Practicum Training
Our practicum and internship training at Heartland Counseling is available for Master's and Doctoral students in clinical psychology and is based on our training philosophy of rural community mental health. The Center for Rural Psychology was founded in part because students who enter graduate school with the dream of serving rural communities often leave graduate school only to settle in the suburbs where they were trained. By keeping these students focused on their original goals and providing them practical examples of people who have met those goals CRP serves its primary mission.

Predoctoral Internship
As a founding member of the Chicago Area Christian Training Consortium CRP is pleased to offer a predoctoral internship site accredited by the American Psychological Association.
Reins of Change
Rural life and horses seem to go together. So do rural psychology and equine assisted psychotherapy. Through our partnership with Reins of Change CRP staff can provide equine assisted therapy as an adjunct to the traditional psychotherapy process.
Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch
CRP has partnered with YBGR, one of the oldest and most respected residential treatment centers in the country. We offer mentoring for Chicago area graduates of YBGR and have placed students and graduates at YBGR.

Diane  Having grown up on a dairy farm in rural Nebraska, I’ve always had a strong desire to return to the country. . . . The training I’ve received at CRP has been instrumental in preparing me for future work in a rural community. I’ve learned through my two years of training at CRP how important it is to earn the respect and trust of the community. . . . The staff at CRP have been actively involved indeveloping programs that meet the needs of rural community members, while diminishing the stigma associated with individual counseling. . . . These experiences have been invaluable in preparing me for some of the unique aspects of offering psychological services in rural communities.
• As a Teaching Clinic for psychology graduate students Heartland Counseling is able to offer affordable, cutting edge treatment based on the latest research. Graduate students are trained and supervised by graduate faculty from the Wheaton College Programs in Clinical Psychology.
• We offer outreach to local organizations and churches through our Speaker Series. We have recently presented on behavioral management of special-needs children and on pornography addiction. We will be happy to tailor a presentation to your organization’s need.
